Creation of natural Dreads extensions - feminine salt-and-pepper hair

Isabelle contacted me through my website to discuss her desire to change her hairstyle. We met at the salon to get to know her story and analyze the quality of her hair.

Isabelle, 50, is a yoga teacher and Ayurvedic nutrition coach. It was in India, where she lived, that she integrated the fundamental principles of these two disciplines.

Isabelle's needs? Analysis and feasibility of her project

For several years, Isabelle had been coloring her hair every 3 weeks to hide her graying. Now, wanting to embrace her natural salt-and-pepper color, she wanted to put an end to this routine. Change her look for natural salt-and-pepper lock extensions all over her head.

To meet Isabelle's needs and determine whether her desire was achievable, I analyzed the quality of her hair, the light in her eyes, her skin tone and the shape of her face. This new locks extension hairstyle had to reflect her current personality: that was the challenge Isabelle set me!

Step 01: Expertise and advice

Isabelle has very thick, curly hair. A very fine face contrasted by beautiful light-green eyes. However, I noticed that her hair color was too dark for her, which didn't enhance either her eyes or the hue of her face.

I complemented my expertise with specific questions about what she was planning for the extensions. Length, thickness and tip. For a hairstylist, this step is essential to provide the most appropriate advice.

Isabelle wanted to be able to style her hair differently to suit her mood and moody moods: chignons, half-tails or creative hairstyles playing with her dreadlocks.

Step 02: applying and styling

Taking all her parameters into account, I imagined a creation of natural salt-and-pepper lock extensions that would blend perfectly with her root color. I asked her to stop her coloring routine for 2 months, while her hair grew sufficiently.

The aim of this step is to gradually eliminate this dark coloring and fix salt-and-pepper extensions as close as possible to the roots.

A real success: the marriage of her new extensions and her natural color perfectly match her skin color, her light green eyes and the shape of her face. A new style in tune with Isabelle's personality.

Care and maintenance of dreadlock extensions

For the past two years, Isabelle has been visiting my salon 3 times a year. This maintenance is essential to help locks mature, especially in their first year. It's very important to establish a simple routine right from the start: 1 shampoo every 10 days, with the application of natural, refreshing and antibacterial treatments to the scalp and lengths.

Isabelle, 1 year after our first meeting, decided to embellish her locks. This was possible because their maturity and sufficient length made it possible to push the basic design further.

I suggested Isabelle use the Swedish Touch layering technique. The technique uses natural hair extensions to add volume to the ends. The advantage of this technique is that it gives dreadlocks a new shine.
