Dreadlocks and fragile hair: compatible? Many prospects ask me this question. And I answer yes without hesitation! Through Laure-Anne's story, discover why.

Are dreadlocks and fragile hair compatible?

Why does our hair become brittle?

Nowadays, we are more and more confronted with a growing fragility of our hair.

Thus our hair ends break, our hair falls out, holes form on our heads. In addition, our hair gets greasy more and more quickly after washing. In short, our hair is dull and lifeless.

What are the causes of this increased fragility of our manes? There are many causes:

  • We wash our hair too much. Dermatologists recommend washing it every 7 to 10 days.
  • The use of shampoos, conditioners, etc. full of chemicals that attack our scalp.
  • Too much use of the hair dryer at too high a temperature.
  • The use of a straightening iron is too frequent.
  • Abuse of straightening for afro or curly hair wearers

Dreadlocks: a cure for brittle hair?

Natural locks help to strengthen fragile hair.

Of course, only expert hands can make natural dreads or put extensions on fragile hair. My great experience experience in this field, my love of fine and fragile hair and my technique of crocheting "the swedish touch" allow me to create dreadlocks without difficulty for people with fragile hair.

Dreads strengthen the hair because :

  • The technique of crocheting allows the hair to be solidified and bonded. This way, our hair is protected from external aggression. Our hair then grows serenely and becomes stronger.
  • Dreadlocks are washed three or four times a month at the most.
  • The hair products used are natural (no chemicals, no palm oils).
  • A regular maintenance routine of the locks helps to strengthen them.
  • Your hair is air-dried.
  • No use of a straightening iron or plating technique.

Dreadlocks and fragile hair: Laure-Anne's creation

Laure- Anne's fragile hair problem

Laure-Anne is the archetype of the modern young woman of our time. She lives life to the full. She juggles her various activities with her professional life.

A high level sportswoman, Laure-Anne is, among other things, a double world champion in para Taekwondo and is also a state-qualified federal instructor at the Taekwondo Nice Elite.

A follower of the adage: Mens sana in corpore sano, Laure-Anne holds a master's degree in psychology and a master's degree in sports science. She is also the founder of Las Developmentan association specialising in sport and health. She works in the city of Nice and offers services as a sports coach and life coach.

Caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, Laure-Anne's hair has taken a beating. Too much washing, too much colouring, too much use of a straightening iron or a blow dryer have all made her hair very fragile.

Wishing to preserve her hair, she had noticed that many top athletes wore dreads. She asked around and soon realised that it was a way of strengthening fragile hair. Seduced by the locks and the alternative offered, she decided to wear them.

Nevertheless, his question: dreadlocks and fragile hair: compatible? remained unanswered.

Laure-Anne's dreadlocks

After a quick search on the net, she discovered my website. It is indeed referenced on the first page on Google. Convinced by the quality of my creations and interviews on afro hair with Boudy, Céline, Stephanie and Jenny. She decided to contact me.

Laure-Anne's project was to make a full head of hair using natural extensions. We met the first time for a pre-visit. This is a necessary step in order to understand the motivations and the quality of the hair of a future dreaded.

Very quickly, I noticed the fragility of her hair. We had a long discussion about this. I wanted to know how she got there. Very quickly, I reassured her about the compatibility of dreadlocks and fragile hair.

Laure-Anne then chose the type of locks she wanted as well as the length and type of tip. She was undecided about the colour of her dreads, so I advised her to go for a brown with three different shades. This allows for a natural brown cameo.

A few weeks later, when her extensions were put in, I treated her hair with a long series of natural products. natural hair products. These products moisturise her scalp and strengthen her hair.

I finally gave Laure-Anne some advice on how to strengthen her fragile hair:

  • Wash your locks every 10 days.
  • Air dry your dreads.
  • Use natural products that do not attack the scalp.
  • Regularly roll your dreadlocks between your hands.

Very aware of the importance of the maintenance and fitness sessions that I recommend (4 times a year), she made an appointment for her 1st interview as soon as the creation was completed.

Dreadlocks and fragile hair: compatible? The answer is clearly yes!
